Why Youth Ministry Part 2
Jesus calling James and John

Hello Edgewood family!
This is Pastor Josh, and I just want to reiterate how excited I am to be serving our families and youth with you all. Over this last week I got to share a little bit about why we do Youth Ministry. One of my first thoughts always goes to Judges 2:10
"After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the LORD or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel."
How easy was it for the relationship and faith in the family of God to slip away with just one generation! From the family of God walking through the red sea, being covered by God's presence in the day by cloud and warmed by fire in the night, being fed manna daily in the wilderness, to not knowing Him or what He had done for them. Yet while our diligence in sharing the Gospel and our faith with our children is crucial, Jesus shows us the next steps in cultivating faith for the next generation as well in Matthew 4:18
"One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20And they left their nets at once and followed him.
21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind."
The age of all the 12 disciples Jesus called to follow him ranged from thirteen to their late twenties... Jesus doesn't shy away from calling youth to follow Him, equipping them to do ministry, and sending them out. The disciples with their faithful witness on Jesus changed their communities, the world, and history as we know it! Just what would our community look like if we shared the same trust in our youth to call them to follow Jesus, put the tools of ministry in their own hands, and sent them out to do the same?
