By all accounts June is a great month of the year. School gets out, summer starts, vacations begin to happen, camping gear is dusted off, marshmallows get bought and the sun is coming out on more of a regular basis.
Personally I have always like June because it starts with my birthday, continues with my wedding anniversary, stretches out with Father’s Day and then by the time June is almost done July 4th weekend is right around the corner.
Being that individuals and families are out and about during the summer months in the Pacific Northwest I wanted to circle back around to what I introduced last month in my blog. And that is OUTREACH, the idea that our Christian lives are to be pointed outward. As we go camping, fly somewhere for a vacation, and have BBQs, we will find ourselves in conversations with Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, Neighbors, Colleagues, maybe some Enemies and possibly some Strangers (FRANCES).
In these conversations we will be discussing the things we care about, the things we are excited about and things we are looking forward to doing in the days and months to come. The list of different people you will likely encounter is your FRANCES list. Your FRANCES list is comprised of those who you have decided ahead of time to pray for with the hope of “bless”-ing them.
BLESS is also a word to remember. Because this BLESS is an acronym that stands for how you are reaching out to people. The “B” stands for BEGIN with prayer. Pray for those in your sphere of influence who you can bless. “L” stands for LISTEN. Listen to their concerns, their story, and what their spiritual interest might be. “E” stands for EAT together. Build relationships over meals and/or beverages. Food is everyone’s favorite. “S” stands for SERVE. Care for them, some how some way. Offer a ride, pay for a meal, lend them a hand. And the final “S” stands for SHARE. Share your story of Jesus changing your life and the eternal hope you now carry in your heart through everything you do.
OUTREACH your FRANCES list, so you may BLESS those around you.
May God be with you.
